Frequently Asked Questions

How can we keep utility rates low?

Other candidates may talk about keeping rates low, but none have shared a clear plan to make it happen. I have.

There are three main ways to handle rising utility costs and infrastructure needs:

  • Rely on loans and grants — helpful, but not enough on their own.
  • Raise rates for residents and businesses.
  • Grow the customer base and reduce costs through smart economic development.

I’m the only candidate with a real strategy for that third and most sustainable option.

If you’re tired of higher bills, it’s time to put a seasoned economic development professional in the driver’s seat.

How can we spread economic development to all areas of the city?

Economic development shouldn’t focus on one street. I will present budgets to City Council that promote growth and deliver services across all areas of Galion — not just a select few.

One key tool is incentive zoning, which can help steer development to the east and south sides, where investment has been long overdue.

It’s time for every neighborhood to get its fair share — and I’m ready to make that happen.

How can we bring investment to Uptowne Galion?

There are proven strategies for attracting investment to historic city centers like Uptowne Galion. But we must be smart — not every success story elsewhere applies here.

Instead of chasing trendy ideas or making false comparisons, we should focus on what works for towns like ours. Nearby cities with similar challenges are making progress. Galion can catch up — and even lead — with the right leadership and a focused plan.

Let’s bring new life to Uptowne by following strategies that actually fit our city and our future.

What is future of the Freese Foundation?

The Freese Foundation is a unique gift to Galion — a powerful tool to build the best parks and recreation system in our region. But to realize its potential, the process must be handled with care, professionalism, and respect for its purpose.

My priority is clear: use Freese funds first to make our parks the pride of north central Ohio. Only then should we consider larger projects — and only if they don’t compromise that primary goal.

It’s also time Galion steps up with a dedicated park maintenance fund and real, year-round recreation programming. Our families and neighborhoods deserve nothing less.

What about enforcement?

Galion’s boards and commissions must operate with greater professionalism. Right now, our building and zoning efforts are falling short due to a lack of clear direction and proper training.

Just as important is how we enforce our ordinances. Enforcement must be consistent, respectful, and free of favoritism. Every resident deserves to be treated equally — no exceptions.

It’s time for enforcement that reflects fairness, integrity, and leadership.

How can my family stay safe in Galion?

Every family in Galion deserves to feel safe — whether it’s drinking water from the tap, walking to school, or enjoying an evening in the park. But safety doesn’t happen by accident. It takes planning, investment, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

Let’s start with our city utilities. The safety of Galion’s water system and its customers must always be a top priority. We need long-range planning for infrastructure improvements. Our electric and sewer systems must also be maintained with safety in mind, using modern standards and qualified oversight.

Street safety is just as critical. That means keeping roads in good repair, maintaining clear signage and crosswalks, and investing in safe routes for pedestrians and cyclists — especially near schools and parks.

Speaking of schools, I support strong partnerships between the City and our schools to ensure safe learning environments for every student. That includes supporting first responders, improving traffic safety around school zones, and promoting community-based programs that reduce risks and build trust.

Galion can be a safe, welcoming place to raise a family — but it starts with leadership that takes safety seriously, across every part of city government. I’m ready to bring that leadership to City Hall.
